How does Invisalign® work?
Our Invisalign® dentist uses a series of aligners to straighten teeth. The first step is taking an impression of your teeth in order for a lab to create a series of aligners. The aligners themselves are made out of thermoplastic material that is flexible yet strong so that they can be worn for long periods of time without becoming uncomfortable. The material is almost invisible.
It is necessary to wear the aligners for 22 hours a day. After every two weeks, switch them out with the next in the series. The aligners gradually move teeth into place over several months, making small adjustments to specific teeth at a time. As your teeth move into position at a manageable pace, they will be more comfortable. Thus, by the end of wearing your aligners, your teeth should be perfectly straight.

Benefits of Invisalign®
1. More Comfortable
It is more comfortable to wear removable aligners than traditional braces. The sharp edges of traditional metal brackets dig into your lips and cheeks. This can lead to painful sores. It is possible to apply wax to the outside of your brackets, but the wax usually falls off quickly. Removable aligners have smooth edges are made of high-quality resin, so you won’t have to worry about any metal digging into your mouth.
Furthermore, invisible aligners straighten your teeth more precisely due to their custom fit. Your teeth will gradually reposition itself horizontally, vertically, and rotationally as you wear your aligners throughout your treatment sequence.
2. Take better care of your teeth
In comparison to traditional braces, removable aligners offer the benefit of allowing you to take better care of your teeth. Cleaning your mouth is the first step to a healthy mouth, and you’d like to have the healthiest teeth possible by the end of the process. Besides, traditional braces tend to trap food and plaque inside brackets, making them difficult to clean. A poor oral hygiene regimen may lead to gum disease and tooth decay.
Unlike braces, you can remove Invisalign aligners and your normal dental routine continues. There is no need for special equipment to floss or brush your teeth. You can also brush the inside of your aligner to ensure no food or bacteria accumulates inside.
3. Fix Dental Problems
In addition to making you feel self-conscious about your smile, crooked teeth can cause other problems as well. It is more likely that you will suffer from other dental problems if your teeth are crooked. Also, you are more likely to develop gum disease if your teeth are crowded or widely spaced since the gums are not able to fit around your teeth. Additionally, aligning your teeth with removable aligners can reduce gum inflammation, tooth sensitivity, bad breath, and even tooth chipping.
You can also use invisible aligners to correct an overbite or underbite. An abnormal bite can cause a variety of problems, from irregular tooth erosion to gum disease. You can suffer from chewing problems, jaw aches, and speech difficulties if you have an improper bite. You can reduce your risk of cavities, gum disease, and tooth loss by correcting your bite.
4. Enhances Self-confidence
Straightening your teeth is most often done for aesthetic reasons. The first thing you notice when you wake up is your smile, and the first thing others notice is your teeth. If you do not feel confident about your smile and teeth, you will not feel confident about yourself. In addition, there is extensive evidence that a straighter smile can boost teenagers’ self-esteem.
Besides being made from clear resin, invisible aligners are perfectly fitted to your teeth. As a result, they are practically invisible, so most people won’t even notice you’re straightening your teeth. Moreover, traditional braces make teenagers more vulnerable to bullying and harassment. With invisible aligners, they can straighten their teeth to improve their confidence and dental health as well as protect themselves from teasing.
5. Fewer Dental Visits
Traditional braces require frequent visits to the orthodontist to ensure that your braces are adjusted correctly. During such visits, the dentist may remove and replace brackets. Also, wire sizes can change, tighten particular brackets and even wire individual brackets together with extra wires.
Invisible aligners reduce the frequency of visits to the dentist, and their short and less intrusive nature will help you avoid these visits. A visit will be required between four and six weeks, but you will already have aligners to change every two weeks until then. Using the aligners will not require any additional dental work since they are already planned and created.
6. Eat and Drink What You Like
Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign allows you to eat and drink whatever you like. Sticky, hard, crunchy and even foods that will require you to bite into your braces are not recommended due to the chance of the wires snapping or the metal brackets bending. Consequently, caramel, gum, nuts, popcorn, ice, corn on the cob, and apples are out. Fortunately, removable aligners don’t affect your diet.
If food particles get stuck inside the aligners, they can cause plaque and bacteria to build up. In order to avoid contamination or losing them, they should be properly placed in their travel containers once you remove them. Moreover, as soon as you’ve finished eating, you may want to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth with water before putting your aligners back in. This will help prevent food particles from getting stuck between your teeth and aligner.
7. Less Time To Treat
It usually takes 16 to 18 months for most traditional braces to work. For some, it may take up to two years. That’s a long time to wait for straight teeth. With traditional braces, the movements aren’t as precise as they are with removable aligners.
Most invisible aligners last about a year, which is a great advantage. You won’t even be able to tell that you’re wearing them due to their invisible design. The year of treatment can fly by, especially if people barely notice you’re wearing anything. Your treatment may take longer if you do not wear your aligners as often as possible or in the correct way.
Invisalign Clear Aligners - FAQ
1. How often do I have to Check-up?
In order to ensure teeth are moving normally, patients need to see us for periodic checkups. Since the aligners are made at the beginning of the process, these appointments are less frequent than if you were wearing metal braces. As an Invisalign® dentist, we are able to see patients less frequently since the checkups are only to ensure everything is working as it should. Patients from across Brisbane can take advantage of this.
2. What is the Treatment Time?
Most patients living in Brisbane take about twelve months to complete the procedure. Our team can advise you on how long you will need to wear them depending on your situation. Overall, the treatment may take less time as compared to metal braces. This is partly due to the fact that you can keep your teeth moving without having to schedule appointments. You can simply replace your aligner.
3. How do I find an Invisalign® Dentist?
Not every dentist offers Invisalign®. It requires special training to offer it to patients. Call our Dental Office office at 07 3414 3999 to find out if the procedure is right for you.
